I have to get out of here.

My name is Aven Streld. I’m a space marine from the planet Terra.

We’ve been on this god forsaken mission for 3 years, 7 months and 28 days. We had been dispatched with a fleet of ships to do battle with the gaseous beings of Isis 9. The vile creatures attacked us on our soil, killing 275,000 Terran citizens in one fell swoop. It is now our duty to stomp the life out of each and every one of them.

How do you strangle a gaseous being?

How do you choke off the life giving air to their cerebral cortex?

It turns out you don’t.

The horrid beasts ambushed our fleet 7 days ago. Our ballistics and particle pulse cannons were useless against them. They ruthlessly destroyed the entire fleet, leaving nothing but twisted metal and fragments of glass in their wake. They spared but one ship, ours. The disgusting creatures somehow got inside this vessel and they now work to turn us against one another. The Professor had warned against this.

I was awoken a few days ago to a strange hissing sound, a sound that could only mean one thing, my bunk was being invaded. I leaped to my feet, a cold sweat on my brow. I looked at my bunk mates, it was too late. they had already been taken by the disgusting gas creatures. They had gone mad. They lie there, almost peacefully appearing to be asleep.

But I know better.

Any minute they’ll all rise and take over the ship.

I start with Kylo Brondtman, who occupies the bunk below mine. My knife catches the blue green light of the nearby moons as I plunge it into his chest. His warm blood splatters my face as he gasps, wide eyed, struggling to survive. For a split second he looks like my father, confused, scared. I cover his mouth with my hand and twist the cold steel of my blade inside of him. I can almost see the the vile gaseous creature exiting his wound as he lay there dying. I turn my knife, now dripping with his traitorous blood, to my other bunkmates. One by one I plunge the knife into their chests, quickly and quietly. My mission is clear, I must cleanse this ship of any of the infected. The Professor knows of my mission.

The heavy steel door of containment room 13 slams shut with a sickening clang.

The doctor turns to the Professor.

“Any hope for Streld?” he asks.

The Professor shakes his head sullenly.

“Streld is delusional, in his mind we are in a galactic space war in the year 2010. He has no idea that it’s actually 1963.”

The doctor turns to the window of the door and views Streld, tied to an examination table.

“Shall I get your instruments, Professor?”

“Yes, we must operate”
